History
Established in September 2014, the first and only “Graduate School of Finance” in Turkey, in accordance with the decisions of our University's Senate and Board of Trustees, published in the Official Gazette dated April 17, 2025, and numbered 32873, continues to offer graduate and doctoral education and training as the “Graduate School of Commerce and Finance”. The Institute aims to improve the quality of our country's trade, conduct research and studies aimed at achieving commercial superiority and competitive advantage. Furthermore, it aims to contribute to the application of financial theories in accordance with Istanbul's public policy of becoming a financial center. The Institute offers formal and distance programs in the fields of Finance, Banking, Insurance and Risk Management, and Capital Markets. The Graduate School of Commerce and Finance has programs and faculty who are well-versed in evolving and changing business/market dynamics, able to adapt quickly to these changes, and able to integrate this adaptability into their curriculum and syllabus. This ensures sustainable and value-added learning outcomes for students across various departments and affiliated programs. To ensure this, a broad and diverse network of relationships has been established since its inception, primarily with industry stakeholders, public institutions, non-governmental organizations, and other educational institutions.

Admission Requirements
Applicants to the Non-Thesis Master’s Program in Banking must hold a bachelor’s degree from a higher education institution in Türkiye or from an equivalent institution abroad recognized by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
An ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) score is not required for admission to the non-thesis program. However, candidates may be asked to submit supporting documents such as a transcript, curriculum vitae (CV), and a statement of purpose during the application process. International applicants are required to provide a Turkish language proficiency certificate (TÖMER) and meet the additional requirements set by the university.
Applications are submitted in accordance with the schedule announced by the Graduate School of Trade and Finance and are evaluated by the Graduate School Executive Board. Admission is granted based on program quotas and applicants’ overall performance in the evaluation process.

Higher Grade Transition
|
Graduates of the Non-Thesis Master’s Program in Banking are not directly eligible for admission to doctoral programs. However, they may transfer to the thesis-based master’s program upon meeting the conditions set by the Graduate School regulations. After successfully completing the thesis-based program, they become eligible to apply for doctoral studies in banking, finance, economics, or business administration.

Graduation Requirements
|
The non-thesis master's program consists of a total of 30 credits and at least 10 courses and a term project of at least 15 ECTS. The non-thesis master's program can be completed with at least 90 ECTS. Students must register for the term project course in the semester in which it is taken and submit a written project and/or report at the end of the semester. The term project course is non-credit and is evaluated as pass or fail.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
|
Graduates of the program can pursue careers in banks, financial institutions, public agencies, auditing firms, insurance companies, and investment organizations. They are qualified to work as credit analysts, portfolio managers, branch managers, risk analysts, investment advisors, internal auditors, and financial consultants. Furthermore, graduates can specialize in areas such as financial technologies (FinTech), digital banking, and sustainable finance, contributing to innovation and transformation within the industry.

Assessment and Grading
Non-Thesis Program
Midterm exams, quizzes, assignments, and project studies are used as in-class assessment tools.
A final exam is administered at the end of each course; the final grade is calculated based on the weighted average of the midterm and final exam scores.
Students learn and apply the principles of academic writing within the course “Research Methods and Ethics” during the preparation of their term project.
At the end of the program, students prepare an Applied Term Project in areas such as financial analysis, capital market practices, or risk management within the scope of the course “Term Project.”
The term project is submitted in written form and evaluated on a pass/fail basis.
General Principles
Student achievement is evaluated using a letter grade and/or four-point grading system.
The assessment tools and their respective weightings contributing to success in each course are announced at the beginning of the semester in the course information packages (via the Bologna system).
Ethical principles are strictly observed during evaluation processes; cases of plagiarism or academic misconduct are handled in accordance with disciplinary regulations.
