About Programme
|
In the Public Relations and Advertising program curriculum, theoretical and practical courses are offered to students as an integrated whole. There is a mandatory internship program covering a specific period to provide students with practical experience in the field. In addition, completion of the Graduation Project course is required for graduation. The courses are conducted with the support of current communication tools, media platforms, and software applications.

History
|
The Department of Public Relations, established in 2001 within the Faculty of Communication at Istanbul Commerce University, was further strengthened with the establishment of the Advertising Department in 2015. Following the restructuring process at our university in 2016, it continued its educational activities under the name Department of Public Relations and Advertising. Operating under the umbrella of communication, the Department of Public Relations and Advertising has attracted great interest from students and has continued to increase its student numbers every year since its establishment.

Students who successfully complete the program are entitled to receive a Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations and Advertising.

Higher Grade Transition
1. Individuals holding a bachelor’s degree can pursue master’s programs and, if they meet the relevant requirements, doctoral programs that accept students with a bachelor’s degree.
2. Undergraduate students have the right to participate in double major programs offered by the higher education institutions they are enrolled in. Students registered in double major programs can take courses from both degree programs simultaneously and, if successful, receive two separate bachelor’s degrees.

Graduation Requirements
To be eligible for a bachelor's degree, students must meet the following requirements: Successfully complete all compulsory, elective, and university elective courses included in the program Earn at least 240 ECTS credits Have a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.00 out of 4.00 Successfully complete the required internship or graduation project Fulfill all financial obligations and administrative procedures of the university

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Graduates of the Istanbul Commerce University Department of Public Relations and Advertising can pursue diverse career paths by specializing in both public relations and advertising through the education they receive. Their main fields of work include advertising agencies (Account Executive, Copywriter, Strategic Planner), public relations (PR) agencies (Communication Consultant, Media Relations Specialist), and digital agencies (Digital Marketing and Social Media Specialist, Content Manager). They can also work in Corporate Communication, Marketing, Public Relations, or Customer Relations departments of companies of all sizes, in both specialist and managerial positions. Additionally, they have employment opportunities in media organizations, event management companies, and brand consultancy firms. Today, with the increasing trend of digitalization, graduates who develop competencies in areas such as digital advertising, performance marketing, and content management significantly enhance their competitive advantage in the job market. Those with sufficient experience also have the potential to establish their own consultancy firms or agencies and continue their careers independently.

Assessment and Grading
ARTICLE 30 – Submission and Retention of Records (Amended: OG-4/12/2015-29552) (1) (Amended: OG-1/9/2019-30875) Teaching staff shall submit students' achievement status, along with all documents confirming achievement, approved course success lists, exam papers, exam questions and answer keys, syllabus, exam attendance list, and minutes to the relevant dean's office, vocational school, or vocational higher school directorate within ten days following the exams. Exam papers shall be delivered to the University archive by the relevant unit at the end of the academic year and stored for 2 years. Course success lists approved by the course's teaching staff shall be filed and retained indefinitely at the relevant faculty dean's office. Exam results shall be announced by the course's teaching staff on the dates announced in the academic calendar and accessible to faculty members on the Student Information System (ÖBS).
(2) (Repealed: OG-1/9/2019-30875)
(3) Appeals against achievement results due to material error must be made with a petition to the relevant dean's office, vocational school, or vocational higher school directorate within seven days from the announcement of the results. The teaching staff shall examine the student’s situation for material error and notify their opinion in writing. Grade changes can only be made by a decision of the relevant administrative board. The decision shall be communicated to the student.
(4) Material errors related to semester end achievement grades must be corrected no later than the registration period of the following semester.
(5) The teaching staff shall announce to the students at the beginning of the semester the evaluation criteria and ratios to be used in determining the achievement grade, including mid-term exams, mid-term assignments, and the final or make-up exam.
ARTICLE 31 – Achievement Evaluation (Amended: OG-14/7/2017- 30124)
(1) A student's achievement grade in a course is determined by evaluating the grades obtained from mid-term exams and/or mid-term assignments, and the final or make-up exam. The weight of each of the mid-term exams and/or mid-term assignments, and the final exam, (Amended phrase: OG-1/9/2019-30875) shall not be less than 30% and not more than 70%. (Amended sentence: OG-11/02/2020-31036) For successful completion, the final or make-up exam grade must be at least the lowest "passing" grade specified in Article 32. (Added sentence: OG-11/02/2020-31036) A higher passing grade for the final or make-up exam may be determined by the Faculty Administrative Boards.
(2) (Amended: OG-19/7/2023-32253) Students with a GPA of 2.00 or more from the end of the fourth semester onwards are considered successful, and those with less than 2.00 are considered on probation. Students on probation shall be placed on the monitoring list until the end of the semester in which their GPA reaches 2.00 or above. Students on probation may take courses from lower classes, in order: (Amended phrase: OG-27/8/2024-32645) including courses they failed and courses they have never taken before, including courses graded DF and DD, they may also take courses from their current grade level, provided the total semester ECTS does not exceed 30. In this case, the new grade replaces the old one. Students in this situation shall pay the full annual tuition fee.
(3) (Added: OG-1/9/2019-30875) The student's overall achievement status is determined by their GPA. Those with a GPA of 2.00 and above are considered successful.
