History
The Department of Sociology commenced its educational activities in Turkish under the Faculty of Science and Letters in the fall semester of the 2013–2014 academic year. The department awarded its first degrees at the end of the spring semester of the 2016–2017 academic year. Since 2016, the Department of Sociology has continued its activities under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. As of the end of the 2023–2024 academic year, the department has produced a total of 22 graduates.

As of the fall semester of the 2024–2025 academic year, the department’s academic staff consists of two Professors, one Associate Professor, one Assistant Professor (Ph.D.), one visiting Professor, and one Research Assistant. The Chair of the Department of Sociology is Prof. Dr. Necmettin Doğan. In addition to its full-time academic staff, the department also benefits from the contributions of visiting lecturers from other institutions, who occasionally teach compulsory or elective courses within the department as well as courses offered to other programs of the university.

Admission Requirements
The Department of Sociology at Istanbul Ticaret University admits students in accordance with the regulations set forth by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). Admission is based on the results of the national examination administered by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). After indicating their program preferences, students are placed into the relevant programs by ÖSYM according to their examination scores.
Higher Grade Transition
Students who complete this program are qualified to pursue further studies in graduate programs.
Graduation Requirements
Students who successfully complete all compulsory and elective courses, practices and internships, the required credits for graduation (at least 240 ECTS) and with a GPA of at least 2.00 are entitled to receive a bachelor's degree in sociology.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Graduates of the Department of Sociology possess the analytical and methodological competence to examine social structures and processes through scientific inquiry. They are employed across diverse sectors, including public institutions, the private sector, and civil society organizations, in positions such as specialists, analysts, and consultants within the fields of research, planning, human resources, social policy, media, and communication.

They may work in public institutions such as the Ministry of Family and Social Services, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), and local governments, as well as in research companies and corporate communication departments in the private sector. Graduates pursuing an academic career may continue their studies at the graduate level and serve as researchers or faculty members in higher education institutions.
Assessment and Grading
The assessment and evaluation processes in the Department of Sociology are conducted in accordance with the Istanbul Ticaret University Associate and Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations.
