About Programme
As the Department of Economics at Istanbul Ticaret University, our mission is to cultivate graduates who possess scientific, critical, and analytical thinking skills aligned with a global perspective and the demands of the professional world, thanks to innovative teaching and learning methods. These graduates will be equipped with the academic qualifications relevant to their field to meet both global and national needs, alongside strong social skills and communication abilities. Within the framework of this mission, our vision is to position the Economics Department of Istanbul Ticaret University in a unique position, enabling it to educate and graduate students within the framework of knowledge, equipment and competencies, turning them into individuals who are preferred in both academic life and the business world.
To achieve all these objectives, it provides education and training within a curriculum designed to equip its students with the quantitative and qualitative knowledge, skills, and competencies required in the twenty-first century. The first two years of the four-year undergraduate programme include courses covering the fundamentals of economics, while the subsequent years add courses such as econometrics, mathematics, statistics, research methods in social sciences, and courses covering different dimensions of economics and its intersections with other disciplines, such as political economy, economic history, and economic sociology.
Economics Department students strengthen their academic skills by participating in projects at research and application centres associated with the department and in academic and socially responsible events organised by the department's student community. They thus develop into individuals with high entrepreneurial capacity, aptitude for group work, ability to produce and share common values, develop projects, tackle problems, and generate solutions.
Economics Department graduates have broad employment opportunities in both the public and private sectors. They can work in financial institutions operating in the banking sector and capital markets, such as banks, investment companies, and stock exchanges; They can work in positions such as economist, analyst, broker, banker, inspector, expert, and manager in public institutions such as the Treasury, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Trade, Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB), Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK), and Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF). They may also find employment opportunities at international organisations such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. They may work in areas such as economic journalism and economic programmes at press and publishing organisations. By completing the necessary training, they may become administrative judges or hold positions in the public bureaucracy, such as district governor or provincial governor.
