History
Founded in 2001 by the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, Istanbul Commerce University began its academic journey with the mission of bringing Turkey’s deep-rooted commercial tradition into the realm of higher education. The Department of Economics (English) operates with the mission of educating individuals who can understand the economic issues faced by Turkey and the world, think analytically, evaluate current economic developments, and propose effective solutions. The medium of instruction is English, and the program integrates both theoretical foundations and applied courses, along with field analyses, to ensure that students gain a solid grasp of contemporary economic dynamics.
The department’s academic staff consists of scholars specialized in various subfields of economics, who contribute to academic research while also bringing practical experience from the public and private sectors. Thanks to Istanbul Commerce University’s strong ties with the business world, students have the opportunity to participate in applied projects, undertake internships, and access career opportunities at an early stage. Since its establishment, the Department of Economics has continued to distinguish itself by producing graduates who are employed in leading public and private institutions in Turkey and abroad. In addition to undergraduate education, the department also offers master’s and doctoral programs in economics, thereby providing students with a solid foundation for pursuing an academic career.
