About Programme
|
The statistics program curriculum offers students a comprehensive mix of theoretical and practical courses. In addition to a mandatory 40-day internship, completion of the Final Project course is among the graduation requirements. Courses are conducted with the support of up-to-date software packages and applications.

History
Istanbul Commerce University Department of Statistics has been providing undergraduate education since 2001 as one of the 7 programs within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, including Psychology (30% English), Political Science and International Relations, Political Science and International Relations (English), Sociology, Mathematics and Educational Sciences. Our university is the only university with a Statistics program among the foundation universities operating in Turkey. Our Statistics Department has joined the FEDEK accreditation process with the aim of providing education in line with international standards and continuously improving the quality of education.

Admission Requirements
Applicants must meet the following conditions to be admitted to the Statistics Programme: 1. Graduation from a high school recognized by the Turkish Ministry of National Education or an equivalent foreign institution. 2. A valid score from the national university entrance exam administered by Measurement, Selection and Placement Centre (MSPC) and placement into the Statistics programme. 3. For international applicants: application and placement according to CoHE and university regulations. 4. For associate degree graduates: successful performance in the Vertical Transfer Exam (VTE) administered by MSPC.

Higher Grade Transition
Graduates may apply to postgraduate programmes in fields such as statistics, data science, actuarial science, econometrics, and information systems, as recognized by the Council of Higher Education (CoHE). Students may also participate in double major and minor programmes within the university. Graduates are qualified to work in national and international institutions as statisticians, data analysts, researchers, and other relevant professional roles.

Graduation Requirements
To graduate with a Statistics Bachelor’s Degree, students must: Successfully complete 240 ECTS credits with a minimum GPA of 2.00/4.00, Fulfil all graduation requirements including the compulsory internship and graduation project

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
|
Our graduates are employed in important national and international companies in various fields within the public and private sectors (research, banking, finance, insurance, healthcare, etc.) both domestically and internationally. Graduates of the Statistics Department can apply for jobs in the public and private sectors that are sought after by graduates of the Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Science and Letters, Faculty of Economics, and/or Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, and can obtain different titles such as data analyst, data scientist, and statistician. In this context, graduates of the department have broad employment opportunities, and these opportunities will increase even further in the future.

Assessment and Grading
The measurement and evaluation processes in the Statistics Bachelor's Program are conducted in accordance with the Istanbul Commerce University Associate and Bachelor's Degree Education, Teaching, and Examination Regulations and the principles determined by the CoHE. Students' academic achievements are monitored and graded using different evaluation tools depending on the nature of the courses.
The assessment and evaluation methods applied in the program are as follows:
Midterm exams, quizzes, final exams Assignments and presentations Particularly in applied courses, statistical software usage, data analysis, and interpretation skills are assessed. A letter grading system is used in the courses, and the contribution rates to the final grade are specified by the relevant faculty member in the course syllabus.
In addition, criteria such as compliance with academic ethics rules, timely submission, and originality are also taken into account in the evaluation process. The department aims to develop students' ability to effectively and correctly apply this knowledge, not just theoretical knowledge.
