History
The Department of Textile and Fashion Design was established in 2002 within Istanbul Commerce University. Prof. Dr. İnci Tezcan, who served as the Department's first Chair, made significant contributions to laying the academic foundations of the programme and shaping its educational structure. Prof. Dr. Sait Sezgener, the founding Rector of both our department and the University, played a decisive role in the department's development with his visionary approach. Since its establishment, great importance has been attached to strengthening the technical infrastructure of the department; weaving, knitting, sewing and dyeing workshops have been meticulously set up, and over time, any shortcomings have been addressed, creating a strong practical infrastructure. The department first began its educational activities at the Üsküdar Campus, then continued its work at the Eminönü Campus, and finally continues its activities at the Küçükyalı Campus, equipped with advanced infrastructure facilities. Today, drawing strength from its rich history, the Textile and Fashion Design Department aims to equip the industry with creative and well-trained designers by combining innovative design concepts with contemporary technology.

Assessment and Grading
1. Assessment and evaluation methods, types of examinations, and their contribution to course grades are determined by the senates of higher education institutions in accordance with the fundamental principles established by the Higher Education Council (YÖK) on these matters. 2. In theoretical courses, assessment consists of mid-term examinations (vize), end-of-term examinations (final), and term-based assignments or short examinations. The weighting of these components varies according to the nature of the course but is determined to total 100%. In practical and project-based courses, student performance is measured using criteria such as in-term projects, design submissions, portfolio assessments, presentations, and process tracking. The assessment principles for each course are detailed in the course information package, and assessments take into account the student's creativity, technical competence, process management, and original design development skills. 3. Letter and/or number-based grading systems are used to evaluate student performance.
